The Cheese Agent - Tony Hammond

The Cheese Agent – Tony Hammond

Almost a year ago to the day, Tony Hammond set up his business and it’s fair to say it’s booming. As well as selling at numerous local markets and fairs, The Cheese Agent also furnishes a couple of restaurants and Newbury Rugby Club with their fromage. And he’s looking forward to returning to our market in April after his successful debut in March.

A lifelong cheese lover, mainly-vegetarian Tony left a long-standing career in IT looking for a change. Wearing many hats – husband, father to two teenage sons, Cheese Agent – life hasn’t slowed down. But after years of sitting behind a computer screen, he’s relishing the opportunity to build relationships with local businesses; to meet and talk to people at the events he attends; and to eat an awful lot of cheese.

Among the products on offer at April’s market will be two award-winning cheeses from Berkshire. The soft, creamy Barkham Blue, from Barkham (unsurprisingly), won the ultimate accolade of Supreme Champion for the second time at the British Cheese Awards 2015. And Wigmore, a delicate, soft, brie-style cheese made from ewe’s milk in Spencer’s Wood has been winning awards at home or abroad on an almost annual basis since 1994.

What Tony enjoys more than anything is chatting to people while they taste his wares, so come and say hello at our market in April. And if you’d like any more information about The Cheese Agent, or you’re after cheese for an event or cheese and wine tasting, you can get in touch with him on 07766 244978 or at thecheeseagent@hammondt.plus.com.
